WhatsApp began working on a feature that would allow users to edit messages they’d sent last year, and while the feature was released in beta form on Android, the company is still working to bring it to the iOS app.
According to IANS, WhatsApp has included the feature in the latest beta version of some iOS apps. A small group of WhatsApp users have the ability to edit messages; simply tap on the message to see the option to edit the text sent.
Unlike Telegram, WhatsApp intends to limit how users can edit sent messages by imposing a 15-minute time limit from the time the text was sent.
iMessage takes a similar approach, limiting the ability to edit messages sent. WhatsApp will also show an edited label on messages that the sender has edited. The feature will only function with text messages and will not work with images, videos or documents.
It is unknown when the feature will be made available to the general public. WhatsApp finally added a picture-in-picture feature for video calls on its iOS apps earlier this week.
