In a milestone moment, Facebook commemorates its 20th anniversary, marking two decades since Mark Zuckerberg launched the social networking platform in 2004.
The platform rapidly gained popularity and evolved into one of the most beloved social networks globally, IANS reported.
Zuckerberg, the visionary behind Facebook, reflected on the journey in an Instagram post, sharing snippets of his early days at the company. “Twenty years ago, I launched a thing. Along the way, lots of amazing people joined, and we built some more awesome things. We’re still at it, and the best is yet to come,” Zuckerberg posted, accompanied by a reel featuring his old Facebook display picture.
In response, the official Instagram handle of Facebook affectionately commented, “Love you, dad.”
Facebook’s growth has been remarkable, reaching one million users within a year of its launch and surpassing rival MySpace within four years.
By 2012, the platform boasted over one billion users per month, and by the end of 2023, it reported 2.11 billion daily users.
The Meta family of apps, including Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp, collectively engages 3.19 billion people daily, as reported in the fourth quarter.
Zuckerberg, now the fifth richest person globally, has overseen Meta’s surge in share prices, with the company reporting over $40 billion in revenue for Q4 2023 and approximately $14 billion in profit.
However, Facebook’s journey has not been without challenges, facing significant fines for data breaches and privacy concerns. Despite these setbacks, Meta remains a dominant force in the advertising industry.
