The 16th edition of the Mirchi Music Awards celebrated the best in Indian music, spanning diverse categories like film, indie, raag, and technical excellence. ‘Tu Jhooti Main Makkaar’ emerged as the winner of the coveted ‘Album of the Year’, with music composer Pritam acknowledging the efforts of his team and the love from listeners.
Pritam shared, “Each award honours the efforts of innumerable people who contribute to a film’s music album. My sincere appreciation to the listeners and the entire crew. Thank you for the honour!”
Highlights of the Night
1. Song of the Year:
o ‘Besharam Rang’ from Pathaan claimed the title, with Shilpa Rao and Caralisa Monteiro jointly winning Female Vocalist of the Year.
o The song’s composers, Vishal-Sheykhar, also bagged the Music Composer of the Year award. On their win, Vishal-Sheykhar stated, “Creating music that resonates with listeners is a reward in itself, and this honor motivates us to explore new sounds.”
2. Listener’s Choice Awards:
o ‘Animal’ won Listener’s Choice Album of the Year, featuring voices like Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, and Sonu Nigam.
o ‘Phir Aur Kya Chahiye’ from Zara Hatke Zara Bachke was crowned Listener’s Choice Song of the Year, with lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya, who said, “Kalaakaar qadardaan ke bina kuchh nahin.”
3. Independent Music:
o ‘Labon Se Baat’ by Shekhar Ravjiani, Madhubanti Bagchi, and Rishabh Sharma won Indie Song of the Year.
o Darshan Raval’s romantic track ‘Mahiye Jinna Sohna’ secured Listener’s Choice Indie Song of the Year.
4. Raag-Inspired Excellence:
o ‘Rut Badle’, sung by Om Bongane, triumphed in the Raag-Inspired Song of the Year category, celebrating the classical roots of Indian music.
