On Republic Day, AajTak made us all proud by becoming the top news channel on YouTube in the entire world by surpassing 50 million subscribers just three years after surpassing 10 million subscribers in 2019.
To commemorate the special achievement, Kalli Purie, Vice Chairperson, India Today Group, met Gautam Anand, Managing Director of APAC – YouTube, in Singapore. Many thanks, YouTube!” This is incredible.
“The team is already planning its way to 100 million subscribers, so YouTube should start designing the next button,” Kalli Purie told Anand.
“At AajTak, trust has always been the foundation for audience engagement.
It’s the same with our YouTube channel, except on a much larger scale, with hundreds of videos uploaded every day.
“We place equal emphasis on having new audiences discover our channel while ensuring loyal viewers revisit,” Purie added.
Aaj Tak began its digital journey in 2009 with the launch of its YouTube channel, and in 2017 began streaming live news on YouTube for the first time.
The channel’s massive popularity led to it receiving a Diamond play button from YouTube in 2019 for surpassing 10 million subscribers.
After only three years, Aaj Tak has become the first news channel on YouTube to reach 50 million subscribers.
“Constant experimentation with new formats like Shorts and investment into our Community page has really paid off, and consistently breaking stories has helped create a very loyal fanbase.
Events like the Presidential Elections of 2022, Solar Eclipse and the Cricket World Cup just kept encouraging us to do better and better, Kalli Purie added.
YouTube has been at the forefront of India’s mobile revolution, powering the content and creator ecosystem and propelling the world’s largest democracy’s massive upsurge in video streaming.
AajTak’s offering has also rapidly evolved to meet new consumer needs, with the introduction of Shorts and other constantly evolving insights on LIVE Streams.
Through compelling storytelling tailored to individual platforms, the channel has amassed a universe of committed audiences across TV, web, app, and social platforms.
The achievement attests to Aaj Tak’s refined channel strategy, which has contributed to increased subscriptions and enabled engagement with a broader audience.
Kudos to Kalli Purie and the entire India Today Group digital team for propelling the Aaj Tak YouTube news channel to such prominence.
