ABP News-CVoter survey: close State races, clear CM choices

The ABP News-CVoter pre-poll survey provides insights into the public sentiment in five Indian states heading for elections: Chhattisgarh, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Telangana. Here is a summary of the key findings from the survey:

Madhya Pradesh:
55.4 percent of respondents in Madhya Pradesh expressed dissatisfaction with the government led by Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The Congress is projected to win 118-130 seats out of the 230, with a 44.3 percent vote share, while the BJP is expected to secure 99-111 seats with a 42.1 percent vote share.


This indicates a strong anti-incumbency sentiment in Madhya Pradesh.

Rajasthan:
In Rajasthan, 49.2 percent of respondents are dissatisfied with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot’s government, while 45.5 percent are not seeking a change.
Both the BJP and Congress are projected to increase their vote shares compared to the previous election.
The BJP is potentially set for a significant victory, with 114-124 seats out of the total 200 and a 44.8 percent vote share.
The Congress is expected to win 67-77 seats with 41.7 percent of the votes.


Despite dissatisfaction with his government, Ashok Gehlot remains the most favored Chief Minister candidate with 40.7 percent of respondents endorsing him.

Chhattisgarh:
In Chhattisgarh, 48.5 percent of participants want a change, while 44.8 percent are satisfied with the current government under Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.
The ruling Congress is projected to win 45-51 seats out of the 90-seat assembly with a 44.8 percent vote share.
The BJP is expected to secure a projected 36-42 seats with a 42.7 percent vote share.
Bhupesh Baghel is favored as Chief Minister by 45.8 percent of voters.

 

Telangana:
The ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) is expected to receive a 40.5 percent vote share, with Congress at a close 39.4 percent.
57 percent of respondents expressed discontent with the state government’s performance under KCR’s rule.
Seat projections place BRS slightly ahead with an estimated 49-61 seats, while the Congress is expected to secure 43-55 seats in the 119-seat House.
KCR remains a popular choice for the Chief Minister post, with 37 percent voter support.

Mizoram:
In Mizoram, 50 percent of the survey respondents seek new governance, indicating anti-incumbency sentiment.
The MNF is likely to win 17-21 seats in the 40-seat assembly, outperforming the Congress, which is projected to win 6-10 seats.
The MNF has a vote share support of 34.7 percent, compared to the Congress’s 30.1 percent.
ZPM’s Lalduhoma is the most favored candidate for the Chief Minister post, with 32.4 percent of respondents support.
The survey methodology involved interviews with a total of 63,516 people aged 18 and above statewide, all confirmed voters, between October 9 and November 3. The sample sizes and details for each state are provided in the report, and the margin of error at the state and regional levels is specified as well.

The results of the pre-poll survey indicate a significant wave of anti-incumbency in these states, with voters expressing a desire for change. However, the outcome will only be known after the elections on December 3, 2023.
