‘Air’, Ben Affleck’s new film about Michael Jordan’s game-changing partnership with Nike’s basketball division, will be released on Prime Video on May 12.
The film will be available to Prime Video subscribers in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam.
The film is about the company’s longshot attempt to sign basketball legend Michael Jordan in the mid-1980s, an endorsement that seemed impossible at the time but would go on to become the most significant relationship between an athletic brand and an athlete, launching the multibillion-dollar modern sneaker industry.
Affleck’s close friend and frequent collaborator, Matt Damon, plays Sonny Vaccaro, the legendary sneaker salesman who signed Jordan to his first sneaker deal in Nike’s early days, PTI reported from Mumbai.
Affleck plays Nike co-founder Phil Knight, while Jason Bateman plays Rob Strasser, Chris Messina plays David Falk, Matthew Maher plays Peter Moore, Marlon Wayans plays George Raveling, Chris Tucker plays Howard White, Viola Davis plays Deloris Jordan, and Gustaf Skarsgard plays Horst Dassler.
‘Air’ is the first project from Affleck and Damon’s production banner Artists Equity, which is supported by Amazon Studios, Skydance Sports and Mandalay Pictures.
It’s also the first time Affleck has directed Damon. The duo won an Oscar for best original screenplay for their 1997 film ‘Good Will Hunting’, and they later collaborated on films such as ‘Dogma’ and ‘The Last Duel’.
‘Air’ was written by Alex Convery. David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold, Jon Weinbach, Affleck, Damon, Madison Ainley, Jeff Robinov, Peter Guber, and Jason Michael Berman produced it.
Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, Kevin Halloran, Michael Joe, Drew Vinton, John Graham, Peter E. Strauss, and Jordan Moldo serve as executive producers.
