Amazon has acquired certain assets of MX Player, one of India’s leading free streaming OTT services, to create a combined platform: Amazon MX Player. This merger of two popular ad-supported video-on-demand (AVOD) services aims to enhance the entertainment experience for over 250 million unique users who accessed the platform in September.
With this integration, users will gain access to thousands of original shows, popular movies, and international series dubbed in local languages. The extensive library includes hit shows such as: ‘Aashram’, ‘Dharavi Bank’, ‘Campus Diaries’, ‘Bhaukaal’, ‘Raktanchal’, ‘Shiksha Mandal’, ‘Roohaniyat’, ‘Jamnapaar’, ‘Dehati Ladke’, ‘Hunter’, ‘Gutar Gu’, ‘Naam Namak Nishaan’, ‘Physicswallah’, ‘Yeh Meri Family’.
Additionally, the platform will offer a large collection of popular Korean, Mandarin, and Turkish shows dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, making Amazon MX Player a top entertainment destination in India.
Girish Prabhu, Head of Amazon Advertising India, stated, “Today we are bringing together the vast reach of MX Player with the advertising technology that leverages Amazon’s billions of customer signals.” This integration allows brands, not just those selling on Amazon, to deliver relevant advertising to a large and engaged audience throughout India. The collaboration also focuses on measuring outcomes effectively from the top to the bottom of the advertising funnel.
Amazon is committed to investing in original content and continuing popular show seasons, enabling advertisers to build deeper connections with viewers. Karan Bedi, Head of Amazon MX Player, emphasized, “Being part of Amazon will let us continue to delight millions of viewers across the country. We will offer high-quality entertainment and streaming experiences faster than we could have done independently while keeping the service free.”
The merger of Amazon and MX Player heralds a significant shift in India’s streaming landscape, promising enhanced entertainment experiences while maintaining a focus on free content access. This initiative is expected to benefit viewers, advertisers, and content partners, paving the way for more inclusive and diverse entertainment options in the region.
