After a fruitful stint at Amazon Prime Video, where she headed the Originals in India and South East Asia, Aparna Purohit is all set to lead Aamir Khan Productions (AKP) as its chief executive.
A message posted on LinkedIn by AKP said, “All of us at AKP are so happy to welcome you to lead us. You come with such a positive energy, such a strong creative instinct, and you are such a wonderful and straight forward person to deal with. We look forward to making some groundbreaking work under you.
“Most importantly, finally AKP will have a boss who attends office 🙂 In AKP we like to get lost in our stories, and we look forward to getting lost with you…Here’s to an enriching journey.”
To the above message, Purohit last week replied: “Thank you for the beautiful welcome note. I am deeply moved. With great excitement, I embrace this new chapter at AKP. Here’s to growth, new opportunities, and creating great stories together!”
Though AKP has been in existence for over a decade now, but its only TV production till now has been been Satyamev Jayate, a non-fictional show produced for Star Plus in 2011, which ran for three seasons and took up a variety of issues from water to rape survivors to alcoholism and initiatives that had a positive impact on society in general.
Though many of the mainstream and big Bollywood productions houses have forayed into TV more aggressively and, in recent years, on streaming platforms, making a variety of shows, it is expected that with Purohit’s arrival, AKP will start making many more web series.
Meanwhile, Amazon Prime Video India has promoted Nikhil Madhok as the head of original content for India. Madhok, who joined Amazon from Disney+Hotstar few years back, acted as Purohit’s deputy till the elevation.
In a LinkedIn note he observed: “It has been a wonderful experience at Prime Video bringing to life some incredible stories, collaborating with such talented creators. Am delighted to have been given the opportunity to do this even more expansively going forward as Head of Original Content for India at Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios!”
