ZEE5, a leading streaming platform, has announced the release of its latest spy thriller, ‘Berlin,’ starring Aparshakti Khurana and Ishwak Singh. Directed by Atul Sabharwal, known for his work on ‘Class of 83,’ the film is set to premiere on September 13, 2024.

‘Berlin’ is set against the politically volatile backdrop of 1990s New Delhi. The story kicks off when authorities arrest a deaf-mute young man, played by Ishwak Singh, on suspicion of being a foreign spy. To decipher his identity, a skilled sign language expert, portrayed by Aparshakti Khurana, is brought in. However, the case quickly evolves into a complex web of intrigue and deception, drawing Khurana’s character deeper into the mystery.

Aparshakti Khurana, fresh off the success of ‘Stree 2,expressed his excitement about the film, highlighting how ‘Berlin’showcases him in a completely different light. “‘Berlin’ is a film with which I am emotionally connected as it brought out the best in me,” said Khurana. “Atul Sabharwal pulled me out of my comfort zone and threw me into such a challenging world. Trust me, this isn’t your typical binge-watch – it’s a mind-bending puzzle that’ll have you playing detective from your couch. It’s a character and a role I have never explored before… so, get ready for a surprise.

Ishwak Singh, acclaimed for his nuanced performance in the series ‘Pataal Lok,’ shared his thoughts on the demanding nature of his role. “From the word go, I knew this was a special film. I found the character and the story very intriguing. Playing Ashok, who is deaf, has without a doubt been the most challenging character I’ve ever played,” Singh explained. He emphasised the importance of authentically portraying the deaf community’s pride in sign language, noting, “I had to be fluent in sign language and comfortable enough with it so I naturally go for signing and not speak while performing the scenes.”

The film also stars Rahul Bose as an intelligence officer, who describes ‘Berlin’ as a unique project that challenges conventional storytelling. The cast includes Anupriya Goenka and Kabir Bedi. ‘Berlin’ has already garnered international acclaim for its gripping narrative and outstanding performances at film festivals such as MAMI, Stars Asian International Film Festival in Los Angeles, and the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.

Produced in collaboration with Zee Studios and Yippee Ki Yay Motion Pictures, ‘Berlin’ has built significant anticipation among audiences and critics alike.
