A biographical film chronicling the life of Kiran Bedi, India’s first female Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, has been announced. Titled ‘Bedi: The Name You Know. The Story You Don’t,’ the film promises to explore the lesser-known facets of Bedi’s inspiring journey.
The movie will be written and directed by Kushaal Chawla, known for his previous work on the short film ‘Another Time.’ Dream Slate Pictures will produce this ambitious project, which aims to shed light on the untold incidents, personal and professional challenges, and the unwavering determination that defined Bedi’s extraordinary career in policing, PTI reported.
“This story is not just my story. It’s an Indian woman’s story,” Bedi said in a statement. “An Indian woman who grew up in India, studied in India, raised by Indian parents, and worked for the people of India throughout her career. My story began at the age of nine when my father told me, ‘Life is on an incline, you either go up or you come down,’ and my mother said, ‘You shall be a giver and not a receiver.'”
Bedi emphasized that these principles guided her throughout her life. “As we aim to release this film in the 50th International Year of the Woman, this will be an Indian woman’s story representing our great nation internationally,” she added.
Director Kushaal Chawla described the project as a ‘labour of love,’ reflecting on the significance of Bedi’s legacy and the impact of her story on audiences worldwide.
The announcement has generated excitement and anticipation among fans and followers of Kiran Bedi, as well as cinema enthusiasts, who are eager to see her inspiring life portrayed on the big screen.
Kiran Bedi is a trailblazing figure in Indian policing and social activism. She became the first woman to join the IPS in 1972, and her career is marked by numerous accolades and pioneering initiatives in police reforms, prison management, and women’s rights.
