British TV producer and director Charlie Hanson has been fired from Netflix’s Ricky Gervais comedy ‘After Life’ due to allegations of sexual misconduct. He has also been suspended by BAFTA.
According to a news report filed by ANI, both Netflix and BAFTA have received an anonymous email that contains the allegations about Hanson. The report has been filed from 11 women, who give detailed accusations dating from 2008 to 2015. Even Hanson has arduously denied wrong things.
The streaming giant confirmed that Hanson is no longer a producer on ‘After Life’. They said, “On Monday, we received an anonymous email containing historical allegations about a producer on one of our titles. Whilst the allegations are unrelated to his time on the show, we immediately removed him from the production and referred the matter to the police.”
In a statement, Gervais added, “I am shocked and appalled to learn to the historical allegations made by several women against Charlie Hanson. The decision was made to immediately remove him from production and I am confident the matter is being handled thoroughly.”
However, BAFTA also confirmed that it had also been suspended from the Hanson’s membership, where they said, “We have presented with several very serious detailed allegations about an individual and while are not their employer we immediately took the decision to suspend their membership.”
Apart from that, After Life is a British black comedy-drama streaming television series created, written, produced, and directed by Ricky Gervais, who is also the star.
It premiered on 8 March 2019 on Netflix. The second series premiered on 24 April 2020. On 6 May 2020, Netflix and Gervais reached a new multi-project deal which included the renewal of After Life for a third installment soon.
