CNN’s Chief International Anchor Christiane Amanpour will leave the network in June 2027, bringing her 43-year association with the broadcaster to an end. She joined CNN in 1983 in an entry-level role at its Atlanta headquarters and went on to become one of its leading international journalists.
Amanpour announced her decision in a statement shared by CNN, saying she had reached it after months of consideration. “After many months of thought and a few sleepless nights, I have decided to separate from CNN, my partner of 43 fantastic years!” she said.
She began her career at CNN as an assistant on the international assignment desk in Atlanta before moving to the network’s New York bureau as a reporter. Over the years, she established herself as a prominent international correspondent, covering major global conflicts, political developments and humanitarian crises.
Throughout her career, Amanpour has interviewed world leaders and influential figures while reporting from some of the world’s most significant conflict zones. She currently anchors ‘Amanpour’, CNN International’s flagship global affairs programme, and hosts ‘The Amanpour Hour’.
Her planned departure comes amid a major ownership transition in the global news industry. Skydance’s reported $110 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery has brought CNN and CBS News under the same corporate ownership.
Amanpour’s exit in June 2027 will mark the end of a career spanning more than four decades at CNN, during which she became widely recognised for her international reporting and coverage of major political events and conflicts.
