Hollywood star Cillian Murphy is set to return as the fearsome gangster Tommy Shelby in a film adaptation of the hit OTT series ‘Peaky Blinders.’
The film, directed by Tom Harper, who helmed episodes of the series’ first season in 2013, promises to condense the gripping narrative into a cinematic experience, IANS reported.
Murphy expressed his excitement about the project: “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me. It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of ‘Peaky Blinders.’ This is one for the fans.”
Harper echoed Murphy’s sentiments, highlighting the show’s explosive nature and familial themes: “When I first directed ‘Peaky Blinders’ over 10 years ago, we didn’t know what the series would become, but we did know that there was something in the alchemy of the cast and the writing that felt explosive. ‘Peaky’ has always been a story about family – and so it’s incredibly exciting to be reuniting with Steve and Cillian to bring the movie to audiences across the world on Netflix.”
The film’s screenplay has been crafted by Steven Knight, the creator of the original series, who will also co-produce alongside Murphy, Caryn Mandabach, and Guy Heeley. Executive producers include Tom Harper, David Kosse, Jamie Glazebrook, Andrew Warren, and David Mason.
Set in the lawless streets of 1900s Birmingham, ‘Peaky Blinders’ has captivated audiences with its intense storytelling and complex characters. The film adaptation aims to continue the saga, delivering the same high-stakes drama and intricate plotlines that fans have come to love.
With the film set to stream on Netflix, the collaboration between Murphy, Knight, and Harper promises to bring a new level of excitement and depth to the beloved series, ensuring that the legacy of Tommy Shelby and his gang lives on in an explosive new format.
