CNBC-TV18’s ‘Future. Female. Forward. College Connect’ program, presented by HSBC India, concluded its first chapter at IIT Delhi on August 3, 2024.
This unique initiative aims to nurture and support college students who will shape the country’s future by providing them with the knowledge and tools needed for more inclusive and diverse workplaces.
According to a press release, the event opened with a welcome address by CNBC-TV18‘s Managing Editor, Shereen Bhan. She emphasized the importance of overcoming societal barriers, particularly for women, and the necessity of training next-generation leaders to tackle complex challenges.
Bhan stated, “We must not be prisoners of our circumstances. The series is about better representation of women across all spheres. As women, we can create history, challenge stereotypes, and be the architects of our futures.”
Hitendra Dave, CEO of HSBC India, delivered a keynote address stressing the importance of entrepreneurial spirit and innovation. He said, “Opportunities come more often to those who are prepared rather than those who merely wait. The country needs innovators who can create jobs, wealth, and inspire others. Pursue your entrepreneurial ambitions.”
Angelie Multani, Dean of Diversity and Inclusion at IIT Delhi, spoke on “Parity Starts at Home,” followed by Pooja Sharma Goyal, CEO of The Udaiti Foundation, who shared insights on women’s representation in various sectors.
The event featured a fireside chat with Abhiraj Singh Bhal, Co-Founder and CEO of Urban Company, on “Revolutionising Gig Work for Women.” Bhal highlighted the importance of female representation in the workforce, stating, “Enabling equal participation of women isn’t just right—it’s a smart business decision. Ensuring women are well-represented across all levels drives both empathy and effectiveness in business strategy.”
A panel discussion on ‘Clutter Breakers: The Power of Deep Tech’ included Seema Goel, Vice President at HCLTech; Anuradha Acharya, CEO of MapMyGenome; Neha Singh, Founder and Chairperson of Tracxn; and Saraniya P, Vehicle Director of Agnibaan SOrTeD.
Goel shared her four key practices: embracing strengths, networking, continuous learning, and viewing failures as learning experiences. Saraniya P recounted the challenges and triumphs of launching the Agnibaan Sub-Orbital Technology Demonstrator.
Punit Goyal, Co-Founder of BluSmart, delivered a special talk, followed by a collaborative “Ask Me Anything” session. KV Subramaniam, former CEA and MD of IMF, discussed “India – The Economic Powerhouse,” highlighting the resilience and skills women bring to the economy. He emphasized the importance of increasing women’s labor force participation to build a more resilient and inclusive economy.
The event concluded with a special address on “Bridging the Gender Gap” by Nirat Ray, Assistant Professor at IIT Delhi, followed by an interactive Q&A session and an open house, leaving students inspired and motivated.
