Dolby Laboratories, a global leader in immersive entertainment technology, has announced its plans to introduce Dolby Cinema in India this year.

The move marks a significant step in redefining premium cinematic experiences for Indian audiences.

According to an official press release available on the Dolby website, six theaters across the country—City Pride (Pune), Allu Cineplex (Hyderabad), LA Cinema (Trichy), AMB Cinemas (Bengaluru), EVM Cinemas (Kochi), and G Cineplex (Ulikkal)—will be the first to launch Dolby Cinema screens.

Dolby Cinema combines state-of-the-art visual and audio technology to offer an unparalleled movie-watching experience. Equipped with Dolby Vision, it delivers stunning brightness, deeper blacks, and unmatched color vibrancy, bringing every scene to life with incredible detail. Meanwhile, Dolby Atmos creates an immersive soundscape that moves around the audience, making them feel as though they are inside the film itself. The auditorium design ensures that every seat offers an optimal view and sound experience, making each screening an event to remember.

Michael Archer, Vice President of Worldwide Cinema Sales and Partner Management at Dolby Laboratories, emphasized the significance of this launch, stating, “The introduction of Dolby Cinema in India is a game-changer for the country’s entertainment industry. Indian audiences are deeply passionate about movies, and we are thrilled to bring them an experience that places them at the heart of storytelling. Since its inception in 2014, Dolby Cinema has expanded to 14 countries with 35 exhibitor partners, and we are excited to see this premium format flourish in India.”

In preparation for the launch, Dolby has also bolstered India’s post-production capabilities, ensuring filmmakers can leverage the highest quality tools to bring their creative visions to life. The company has established 24 Dolby Atmos theatrical mix facilities in India and recently collaborated with Annapurna Studios in Hyderabad to set up India’s first Dolby Vision color grading facility for cinema. This move is set to empower Indian filmmakers with cutting-edge post-production resources.

With the debut of Dolby Cinema in India, moviegoers can look forward to a truly transformative experience—one that stays true to the filmmaker’s vision while pushing the boundaries of cinematic storytelling. The first Dolby Cinema screens are expected to open later this year, with more details to be announced soon.
