R Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty are on board ‘Duologue With Barun Das’ in a 60-minute exclusive ideas fest. The lively discussion has crucial leadership lessons for India, Infosys lessons for India Inc, and a successful recipe for the institution of marriage and family.
According to a press release from TV9 Network, the power couple, in their trademark way, spoke out on a variety of problems. The pair discussed why, despite being the best-qualified applicant on all metrics, Sudha chose to be an angel investor for her husband so he could pursue his entrepreneurial passion. And she pursued her desire to be the best mother she could be to her children.
To begin the engagement, Barun Das proposed that Infosys name Kulkarni (Sudha Murty’s maiden surname) as the founder, given her superior credentials over Murthy’s.
“I believe we discussed it straight from the start… She is the most qualified of the founder’s and co-founders’ wives. However, we both sat down and debated whether we should be in it together or separately. “I think my point of view at the time was that I was trying to reduce unnecessary friction among the group of founders,” Murthy explained.
Sudha Murty, who agreed with her husband, recounted Murthy’s childhood aspiration of founding a software company. “In 1981, he explained to me the role of entrepreneurship in our country.”
The power couple’s connection was on display as they now represented two disparate and divergent ends of business – the pureplay P&L and the social contract. The major message was their desire for India to take the global lead while navigating a plethora of opportunities and difficulties.
“My conversation with NR Narayana Murthy and Sudha Murty captivated and inspired me.” It was very inspiring to witness the process of developing a firm like Infosys with his unshakable dedication and excellent leadership. “However, I still believe that if Sudha Kulkarni, truly the better half, had not taken the back seat and taken the chairperson’s seat 40 years ago, fair and equal participation of women in India Inc corner offices would have been expedited,” said Barun Das, MD & CEO of TV9 Network and show host.
“India, in my opinion, can learn a lot from Murthy’s leadership and vision to replicate the Infosys success story across diverse businesses.” By doing so, we can pave the road for even more growth and success.
