Indian President, Prime Minister and Home Minister, along with a host of other politicians and celebrities, yesterday condoled the untimely death of broadcast journalist and Aaj Tak news channel anchor Rohit Sardana who passed away in New Delhi following Covid-related complications.
“Rohit Sardana left us too soon. Full of energy, passionate about India’s progress and a kind hearted soul, Rohit will be missed by many people. His untimely demise has left a huge void in the media world. Condolences to his family, friends and admirers. Om Shanti,” Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage in a tweet.
The Indian President Ram Nath Kovind, while expressing his condolences to the bereaved family, described Sardana as a “popular and senior journalist” whose untimely demise was certainly to impact the world of journalism.
Sardana passed away on Friday. He had tested positive for the Coronavirus.
The news was confirmed by one of his industry colleagues, Zee News Editor-in-Chief Sudhir Chaudhary. In a tweet, Chaudhary said he had never imagined the virus would take away someone so close to him and that he was not prepared to handle such sad news.
Sardana, who was presently in a senior position at Aaj Tak news channel, owned by The India Today Group, had also been associated with Zee Media-owned Zee News.
At Zee News, Sardana hosted a popular show, ‘Taal Thok Ke’, which was a debate program that discussed contemporary issues in India.
Presently, Sardana was with Aaj Tak and used to anchor the show ‘Dangal’.
In 2018, Sardana was awarded the Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Award, and in 2019 he was bestowed upon the Best Anchor honours in the BCS Ratna Awards.
Paying tributes, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Prakash Javadekar said that Sardana was a talented journalist whose death would leave a void in the world of journalism.Senior journalist and Sardana’s India Today colleague, Rajdeep Sardesai, wrote, “Friends, this is very sad news. Famous TV news anchor Rohit Sardana has passed away. He had a heart attack this morning. Deepest condolences to his family.”
Sardana is survived by his wife and two young daughters.
