Instagram tests locked reels for exclusive content sharing

Instagram is experimenting with a new feature called ‘Locked Reels,’ aiming to give creators a fresh way to share exclusive content with select audiences. The platform, owned by Meta, has started limited testing of this feature, allowing users to post reels that can only be viewed by paying subscribers or a chosen group of followers.

With Locked Reels, creators can offer premium content behind a paywall, similar to subscription models seen on other platforms. This move aligns with Instagram’s ongoing efforts to provide more monetization tools for its creator community, helping them build sustainable income streams directly from their audience, TOI reported.

The feature is expected to give users more control over who can view their content, opening opportunities for personalized fan experiences, exclusive behind-the-scenes looks, or special announcements. While Instagram has yet to announce a full rollout, the Locked Reels feature is seen as a step toward enhancing the app’s creator economy.
