Jio Giga Fiber with a speed of 3.6 Mbps topped the Indian leaderboard in February 2021 for Netflix ISP speed index. It was closely followed by the likes of 7 Star Digital, Airtel, TataSky Broadband and Excitel Broadband with respective speed of 3.4 Mbps.
State-run telcos BSNL and MTNL were placed in the fifth and sixth position with speed of 2.8 and 2.4 Mbps, respectively.
The Netflix ISP Speed Index is a measure of primetime Netflix performance on a particular ISP and not a measure of overall performance for other services/data that may travel across the specific ISP network. Faster Netflix performance generally means better picture quality, quicker start times and fewer interruptions.
The other ISPs that figured in the leaderboard included Atria Convergence Technologies, SPECTRA, Alliance Broadband, D-VoiS, GTPL, Hathway, One Broadband, You Broadband, Syscon Infoway, and Tikona.
For the month of February 2021, 15 countries and regions were in the top performance-tier on the Netflix ISP Speed Index, a monthly update on which Internet Service Providers (ISPs) provide the best prime time Netflix streaming experience.
Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Hong Kong, Israel, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the UK and the US all placed in the top tier for the second month in a row. They, again, all registered an average speed of 3.6 Megabits per second (Mbps), Netflix said in a post on its website.
Three individual ISPs posted the largest gains, each rising 0.4 Mbps. Austria’s A1 escalated to 2.8 Mbps — its third month in a row of increases. After two months of dips, Hungary’s invitel jumped to 3.0 Mbps. Israel’s 099.net rose to 2.8 Mbps.
Austria’s A1 increase likely helped boost the country’s overall average 0.2 Mbps to 3.2 Mbps — the only country average to improve in February. This was the third month in a row Austria’s country average increased.
No individual services or country averages saw notable decreases this month, the streaming platform said.
