JioStar, the media and entertainment arm formed after the merger of Viacom18 and Star India, has posted an impressive gross revenue of Rs.10,006 crore for FY25 since its inception on November 14, 2024. Backed by the success of its OTT platform JioHotstar and a strong television presence, the company has quickly cemented itself as a formidable player in India’s entertainment landscape.

According to an official press release issued by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), JioStar reported an EBITDA of Rs.774 crore, reflecting an EBITDA margin of 7.7percent on gross revenue. The company recorded Rs.9,497 crore in revenue from operations, with a net profit of Rs.229 crore. This financial performance underscores the strength of the newly merged entity and its diversified portfolio across digital, linear TV, and sports broadcasting.

JioHotstar, launched on February 14, 2025, has emerged as a market leader in the OTT space. Within just five weeks of its debut, the platform surpassed 100 mn paid subscribers and recorded a staggering 503 mn monthly active users (MAUs) in March 2025, largely driven by marquee sporting events such as the ICC Champions Trophy and IPL 2025, along with a robust content library exceeding 320,000 hours. The platform also achieved a record peak concurrency of 61.2 mn viewers during the Champions Trophy final, making it the highest-rated multi-nation cricket event in Indian history.

JioStar’s television arm is equally dominant. Its TV network has garnered an industry-leading entertainment viewership share of 34 percent, reaching over 760 mn viewers across the country. Star Plus retained its leadership in the Hindi General Entertainment Channel (GEC) category with six out of the top ten shows, while regional powerhouses such as Star Jalsha, Star Maa, Asianet, Star Vijay, and Star Pravah continued their stronghold in respective markets.

On the sports front, JioStar delivered its most successful IPL season to date. IPL 2025 recorded 1.4 billion digital views and a TV reach of 253 million during its opening weekend—marking a 35 percent and 14 percent year-on-year growth respectively.

Combined TV and digital watch time hit 49.6 billion minutes in Week 1 alone. Notably, JioHotstar witnessed a 46 percent jump in overall watch time and an extraordinary 60 percent growth in Connected TV (CTV) watch duration. The Women’s Premier League (WPL) Season 3 also performed well, registering a 49 percent higher reach and a 34 percent increase in digital views compared to last year.
JioStar has further consolidated its sports broadcasting under the unified Star Sports banner, now operating 24 channels including dedicated regional feeds in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. The move is expected to drive deeper penetration into regional markets and streamline viewer experience.

In the digital entertainment space, JioHotstar has rolled out unique live-stream experiences and fresh content innovations. Highlights include the Mahashivratri night stream, which drew 39 million views, and the live stream of Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres” tour, which garnered 8.3 million views. The introduction of “Sparks,” a new digital-first content segment focused on short, high-energy entertainment by online creators, has also gained traction among younger audiences.

As JioStar continues to expand its footprint across screens and genres, its post-merger performance points to a well-orchestrated strategy aimed at owning India’s evolving media landscape—one screen at a time.
