JioStar has announced its acquisition of the English Premier League (EPL) media rights for the next three seasons, spanning 2025 to 2028. The deal, valued at an estimated $65 million, marks a significant milestone for the broadcaster, positioning it as a major player in the sports entertainment market in India.
Previously, the EPL broadcasting rights for the 2022-2025 cycle were held by Disney Star India’s Star Sports network. However, the landscape shifted following the merger of Disney Star India with Reliance Industries’ Viacom18 and Bodhi Tree Systems. This strategic collaboration resulted in the rebranding of the entity to JioStar, which subsequently secured the coveted Premier League rights.
The acquisition is seen as a strategic move to bolster JioStar‘s sports portfolio, which already includes the broadcasting rights for the Indian Super League (ISL), the country’s premier football competition. This deal is expected to significantly enhance JioStar’s footprint in football broadcasting, catering to the growing appetite for international and domestic football among Indian audiences.
With this development, JioStar aims to redefine football broadcasting in India, leveraging its technological capabilities and extensive network to provide fans with unparalleled access to one of the world’s most prestigious football leagues.
