The Telugu blockbuster ‘Kalki 2898 AD,’ which premiered in theaters on May 9, has garnered immense success, grossing ₹1200 crore globally and surpassing Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jawan’ to become the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
Directed by Nag Ashwin, this mythological science fiction film set in a post-apocalyptic era is now poised to showcase its brilliance at the Busan International Film Festival, PTI reported.
The prestigious festival will take place from October 2 to October 11, with ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ scheduled for screenings on October 8 and October 9.
The film features a stellar cast, including Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, and Deepika Padukone. The narrative revolves around the birth of Kalki, the 10th avatar of Lord Vishnu, as he rises to combat evil forces.
In this epic tale, Kamal Haasan portrays the antagonist Yaskin, a supreme power determined to prevent Kalki’s birth, fearing it would signal his end. Amitabh Bachchan takes on the role of the immortal Ashwathama, who seeks the aid of Bhairava, played by Prabhas, depicted as an incarnation of Karna from the Mahabharata.
The film’s production team is already in motion for the sequel, having completed 25 days of shooting, with pre-production well underway. The second installment is anticipated to hit theaters in 2027. The ensemble cast also includes notable actors such as Pasupathy, Shobana, Anna Ben, Disha Patani, and Brahmanandam, with special appearances by SS Rajamouli, Ram Gopal Varma, Vijay Devarakonda, Mrunal Thakur, and Dulquer Salmaan. The soundtrack for this ambitious project is composed by Santhosh Narayanan.
As ‘Kalki 2898 AD‘ continues to break records and gain international recognition, its screening at the Busan International Film Festival underscores its significant impact on the global cinematic landscape.
