Marvel TV series ‘Jessica Jones’, ‘Daredevil’, ‘Iron Fist’, ‘Luke Cage’, ‘Punisher’, and ‘The Defenders’ will be leaving Netflix at the end of this month.
The MCU series were produced pre-Disney Plus days, so they were made for Netflix. The TV shows were all canceled by Netflix by 2018. The rights will revert to Disney on February 28, UNI reported.
Though surprising, it is not unexpected, because with the growth of Marvel shows on Disney+ the takeover felt almost inevitable.
The deal Netflix had with Marvel for the characters has expired, with the rights for these reverting to Disney, which is why certain characters like Matt Murdock and Kingpin have been able to show up in the latest MCU productions like ‘No Way Home’ and ‘Hawkeye’ respectively.
There is no word yet on whether any or all of the series will be renewed as the Disney property again, though Charlie Cox’s ‘Daredevil’ did appear in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, as did Daredevil villain Kingpin in the ‘Hawkeye series’ on Disney Plus.
