Meghalaya govt. launches OTT platform 'Hello Meghalaya'

Meghalaya government has launched its very own OTT (Over-the-Top) platform named ‘Hello Meghalaya’ on Friday. This initiative marks Meghalaya as the first state in India to introduce an OTT platform that focuses on monetizing the creative passions of its youth, while also fostering economic growth.

The launch of ‘Hello Meghalaya’ underscores the state government’s commitment to harnessing the power of digital media to promote local culture and language. The platform is designed to cater to the state’s substantial youth demographic, providing them with a productive outlet for their creativity and talents, PTI reported from Guwahati.

Speaking at the launch event, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma highlighted the importance of such initiatives in the digital age. “Hello Meghalaya is not just an OTT platform; it is a medium through which we aim to preserve our cultural heritage and promote our local languages. This platform will empower our youth by providing them with opportunities to showcase their talents and earn a livelihood through their creative endeavors.”

‘Hello Meghalaya’ will feature a diverse range of content, including films, web series, music videos, documentaries, and educational content, all primarily in the local languages of Meghalaya. The platform aims to:

Promote Local Culture and Language: By offering content in local languages such as Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia, the platform seeks to preserve and promote Meghalaya’s rich cultural heritage.

Monetize Youth Creativity: The platform provides a unique opportunity for the youth to monetize their creative passions, whether in filmmaking, music, or other forms of digital content creation.

Facilitate Economic Growth: By engaging the youth in productive activities, ‘Hello Meghalaya’ aims to contribute to the state’s economic growth. The platform will generate employment opportunities and stimulate the local creative economy.

One of the key goals of ‘Hello Meghalaya’ is to engage the state’s large youth population in productive activities. By providing a platform for young creators to showcase their work, the government hopes to channel their energy and creativity towards positive and economically beneficial outcomes.

“The youth of Meghalaya have immense talent and potential. With Hello Meghalaya, we are providing them with a platform to express their creativity, reach a wider audience, and earn from their passion. This initiative will undoubtedly inspire many young people to pursue their dreams in the creative industry,” said Minister of Information and Public Relations, Lahkmen Rymbui.

The platform will also facilitate collaborations with local artists, filmmakers, and content creators, providing them with technical support and resources to produce high-quality content. Additionally, the government has announced plans to conduct workshops and training programs to help budding creators enhance their skills and navigate the digital content landscape effectively.

The introduction of ‘Hello Meghalaya’ is expected to have a significant positive impact on the state’s economy. By creating a vibrant digital content ecosystem, the platform will attract investments and provide new revenue streams for local talent. Moreover, it will position Meghalaya as a hub for creative content production in the region.

Looking ahead, the government has ambitious plans for the platform. Efforts are underway to expand the content library, collaborate with national and international content creators, and introduce innovative features to enhance user experience. The government also envisions ‘Hello Meghalaya’ becoming a model for other states to follow in leveraging digital platforms for cultural promotion and youth engagement.

The launch of ‘Hello Meghalaya’ represents a significant milestone for the state, blending cultural preservation with modern technology to create opportunities for its youth. As the first state-owned OTT platform in India, ‘Hello Meghalaya’ sets a precedent for using digital media as a tool for economic development and cultural enrichment. The platform is poised to become a beacon of creativity, empowerment, and growth for the people of Meghalaya.
