Meta expands 'Take It Down' programme globally

Meta has partnered with the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to globally expand the ‘Take It Down’ programme, aimed at empowering teens to combat sextortion.

The campaign seeks to give teenagers control over their private photos, preventing unauthorized sharing online, including by scammers and former partners.

Originally available in English and Spanish, the platform has now been expanded to include 25 additional languages such as Hindi, Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, Arabic, and more, IANS reported.

‘Take It Down’ addresses concerns of individuals under 18 about potential or actual sharing of their online content, allowing parents or guardians to seek assistance on their behalf.

In collaboration with the non-profit organization Thorn, which focuses on developing technology to protect children from sexual abuse, Meta has updated instructions for teenagers on reclaiming control in situations where they feel subjected to sextortion.

The initiative aligns with Meta‘s commitment to promoting online safety and preventing the exploitation of young users.
