In a bid to create a safer online experience for teenagers, Meta has launched Instagram Teen Accounts in India, incorporating a suite of built-in safeguards aimed at protecting young users.
These accounts introduce stricter privacy settings, restricted interactions, and enhanced parental controls, ensuring a more age-appropriate digital environment.
One of the major additions is stronger age verification measures. If a user tries to register with an adult birthdate, additional verification steps will be required to confirm their actual age. This is designed to prevent age misrepresentation and keep teenagers within Instagram’s safety parameters.
For users under 16 (or under 18 in some cases), accounts will automatically be set to private. This means followers must be approved before viewing posts or sending messages. Furthermore, Meta is restricting direct messaging, allowing teens to only receive messages from people they already follow.
