The Multiplex Association of India (MAI) in association with cinemas all over the country has organized a ‘movie marathon’ on the occasion of National Cinema Day, which falls on October 13 of every year.
Moviegoers will be able to enjoy and be a part of this marathon at just Rs 99 per admission, the group of cinema operators announced on Thursday.

“It’s a heartfelt “thank you” to all the moviegoers who contributed to this success and an open invitation to those who haven’t yet returned to their local cinema,” MAI said in a release.
This is the second year that the association is organizing such an event following last year’s success which saw as many as 6.5 million admissions marking the highest ever single day admissions.
MAI also informed that the tickets and other offers including booking of food and beverages will be announced by the participating cinemas, on their websites, and through their social media handles.
Moviegoers can also follow the hashtag #NationalCinemaDay to get updates and announcements around the grand event.
After a hard time during the pandemic, India’s gross box office statistics reached Rs 4,002 crore in the four months to April, signalling the best-ever performance post Covid despite the impact of the third wave and the closure of a number of cinemas, ET reported in June.
It was also the first time that the monthly average box office exceeded Rs 1,000 crore, thanks to films such as ‘K.G.F: Chapter 2’,’RRR’, ‘The Kashmir Files’, ‘Beast’, ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ and ‘Valimai’.
Recent Bollywood hits like ‘Rocky aur Rani ki Prem Kahani’, ‘Gadar 2’ and Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Jawaan’ were also successful in setting new records at the box office this year.
MAI represents more than 11 cinema chains, operating more than 500 multiplexes across the country, with around 2500+screens. The MAI therefore represents around 75% of the multiplex industry of India.
