MTV India is set to thrill its audience with an innovative addition to its content lineup, ‘MTV Dark Scroll – Muqabla Anjaan Se’,’ a paranormal reality show that promises to blend horror and reality in a way never seen before.
Hosted by acclaimed actor Amit Sadh, the show is scheduled to premiere on August 16, streaming on JioCinema every Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 pm and airing at 10 pm on MTV.
Set against the eerie backdrop of Uttarakhand’s dense forests and misty mountains, ‘MTV Dark Scroll’ takes nine brave Seekers on a terrifying journey through seven haunted locations.
Guided by renowned paranormal investigator Sarbajeet Mohanty and psychic Pooja Vijay, the Seekers will explore spine-chilling stories and confront other-worldly challenges. The show will utilize advanced paranormal investigation tools, including infrared cameras, electromagnetic field meters, and the Estes Method, to uncover the unknown.
With a strong focus on innovative storytelling and immersive viewer experiences, ‘MTV Dark Scroll’ reinforces MTV India’s position as a trendsetting youth brand. The show is designed to captivate Gen-Z and Millennial audiences with adrenaline-pumping content that offers a break from the ordinary.
The channel said in a statement that horror is a genre that has consistently attracted a substantial following, with 298 million viewers annually tuning in to horror content on TV, according to BARC India (April 2023 – March 2024). MTV’s latest offering is expected to tap into this growing demand, particularly among young audiences who make up 55 percent of horror genre viewers.
In collaboration with JioCinema, MTV is set to introduce several groundbreaking features that will elevate the viewer experience. JioCinema will debut its first-ever immersive 360-degree gaming experience with the ‘MTV Dark Scroll’ game. Viewers can unlock haunted locations as the show progresses, making the viewing experience interactive and engaging. Prizes include phones and heart rate monitors, adding an exciting competitive element to the experience.
JioCinema’s proprietary heart rate monitor app will display contestants’ real-time fear levels during paranormal encounters. This unique feature will allow viewers to gauge the intensity of the participants’ experiences, adding a layer of authenticity and connection to the show.
Viewers will have the option to switch between standard and thermal imaging feeds during the show. This feature allows for the exploration of temperature fluctuations and the potential spotting of paranormal entities alongside the contestants.
In a bid to engage viewers creatively, JioCinema has invited fans to submit their own short horror stories in the ‘Spooky Stories in 60 Seconds’ contest. Winning entries will receive prizes and be featured on JioCinema, enhancing the interactive experience and fostering community participation.
Anshul Ailawadi, Business Head, Youth, Music, and English Entertainment Cluster, Viacom18, said, “With ‘MTV Dark Scroll – Muqabla Anjaan Se’, we’re bolstering our non-fiction content offerings in a big way. Horror has a substantial following across the world, and our research showed that the pandemic only heightened the exploration of the paranormal for Gen-Z and millennials. This show taps into this space, offering a new avenue for brands to connect with a young audience at the intersection of horror and reality genres.”
