Network18 has appointed Nalin Mehta, Managing Editor of Moneycontrol, as the Chief AI Officer for Editorial Operations.
This marks a significant step as Network18 becomes the first media group in India to integrate AI into its editorial workflow at this level. The appointment was announced on Thursday, underscoring the network’s commitment to revolutionizing journalism through cutting-edge technology, the news network said in a press release.
As the Chief AI Officer, Mehta will spearhead the integration of artificial intelligence across the network’s editorial platforms. His primary objective will be to drive the creation of innovative, AI-powered content solutions while ensuring a balance between technological advancement and editorial integrity. Mehta’s focus will also include establishing frameworks for responsible AI usage in journalism and building a collaborative ecosystem that integrates editorial, technology, product, and design teams.
In his new role, Mehta will oversee the training of journalists across Network18’s expansive media outlets, which include 21 news channels, four leading digital platforms, and two magazines. He will work closely with editorial leaders and tech teams to tailor AI tools to the specific needs of each brand, enhancing the newsroom’s efficiency without compromising journalistic ethics.
A major tool in this editorial AI transformation will be ‘Answers’, Network18’s proprietary AI tool. Mehta’s leadership will be key in refining and adapting this technology to meet the unique needs of the network’s diverse editorial teams.
In addition to his new AI-focused responsibilities, Mehta will continue to lead Moneycontrol. Since taking over as Managing Editor just over a year ago, he has transformed the platform into a leading voice in business journalism. His data-first approach, structured newsroom strategy, and editorial innovations have propelled Moneycontrol to the forefront of its industry.
This new appointment solidifies Network18’s position as a pioneer in combining technology with traditional journalism, setting a new standard for the media industry in India.
