Neeraj Mittal assumed charge as the new Department of Telecommunications (DoT) secretary on Wednesday, as the Communications Ministry gets set for the next round of spectrum auctions and faces crucial decisions around the allotment of satellite airwaves, among other things.
After taking the reins of the DoT, Mittal told Economic Times that providing quality and affordable connectivity to all is a priority for him.
“We would like to fully accomplish the targets set by the Hon’ble PM to connect the unconnected across the length and breadth of the country and achieve technological dominance through indigenous efforts in telecom,” he said.
Mittal, a Tamil Nadu cadre 1992-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, met Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw as well as senior officials of the department. Apart from this, he also met stakeholders from the industry, the Economic Times reported.
