Google-owned YouTube is testing the waters with a conversational artificial intelligence (AI) tool that allows users to obtain answers to video-related questions and discover recommendations without interrupting video playback.
This AI tool is currently accessible to a select group of users on certain videos, and YouTube has announced that, in the coming weeks, YouTube Premium members in the United States using Android devices will also have the opportunity to participate in this experimental phase.
“If you’re a part of the experiment, you can access the tool by tapping ‘Ask’ beneath select videos and begin by asking questions about the video or choosing a suggested prompt,” the company explained in a blog post released on Monday.
In addition to the conversational AI tool, YouTube is also in the process of experimenting with another AI feature designed to summarize comment conversations within YouTube videos, IANS reported.
“To facilitate your comprehension and engagement in comment discussions, we’re experimenting with AI that organizes extensive comment sections in long-form videos into easily understandable themes,” YouTube stated.
For those taking part in this trial, opening the comment section on mobile will reveal a new option to sort comments by topics for certain videos.
Content creators can leverage these comment summaries to promptly engage in discussions with their audience or draw inspiration for fresh content based on the themes that their viewers are discussing. Should creators wish to eliminate specific comment topics, they retain the option to delete individual comments that fall under the particular topic.
This experiment is presently confined to a limited selection of English-language videos featuring extensive comment sections.
