News18 Bihar/Jharkhand has launched the anti-dowry campaign ‘Dahej Naa Dem’.
This initiative aims to raise awareness about the harmful dowry system that exists in our society and to foster a shift in mindset to eliminate this social curse.
Dowry has long been a source of pain and injustice in our society.
‘Dahej Naa Dem,’ produced by News18 Bihar/Jharkhand, aims to shed light on the distressing consequences of the dowry system, highlighting its deep impact on individuals and families.
During the show, an esteemed guest panel dedicated to combating the dowry system shared valuable insights and experiences. Their presence prompted viewers to reconsider societal norms, igniting a dowry-abolition movement and paving the way for a more equitable society.
“The ‘Dahej Naa Dem’ campaign is an essential endeavor that addresses the deep-rooted issue of dowry in our society,” said Madan Sahni, Social Welfare Minister, Government of Bihar. “As an artist, I believe it is our responsibility to use our voice for meaningful causes,” said renowned folk singer Bhavani Pandey, who was an active participant in the campaign’s launch show. I am immensely proud to have joined the ‘Dahej Naa Dem’ campaign, which is working to put an end to the practise of dowry, which has caused so much suffering in so many lives’.

One of the campaign’s key segments included a detailed report outlining alarming statistics on dowry-related murders and harassment. The report emphasized the shocking number of lives lost each year as a result of the pernicious practise of dowry, emphasising the critical need for collective action to eliminate this social evil.
‘Dahej Naa Dem’ is an important step towards transforming our society and freeing it from the shackles of dowry. News18 Bihar/Jharkhand invites all citizens, influencers, and community leaders to join this anti-dowry crusade and help shape a future free of this unjust and archaic tradition.
