India’s public broadcaster Prasar Bharati on Tuesday said its digital network focused more on “inclusive growth, instead of just revenue driven growth” and that the country’s North-eastern States have contributed to the digital uptake.
Pointing out that Prasar Bharati’s digital platforms reach the remotest areas of Northeast States, the pubcaster said a significant milestone was achieved by clocking more than 220 million views and one million+ subscribers on YouTube channel(s).
In one such recent landmark achievement, Prasar Bharati said the YouTube channel of Doordarshan Aizawl has crossed 100,000 subscribers. These growths in views and subscriber base were fuelled by top quality content in the genres of teleplays, telefilms and films.
Prasar Bharati is the parent of Doordarshan and All India Radio and is an autonomous body, which also gets financial assistance from the federal government in the form of grant-in-aid apart from generating its own revenue.
Multiple Twitter handles of Doordarshan and All India Radio across Northeast region have followers in thousands and many have blue tick verification from Twitter, a statement from Prasar Bharati said.
YouTube News channels of DD Mizoram, DD Guwahati, DD Shillong and All India Radio Northeast service have sizeable subscribers base, with DD News Mizoram leading the pack.
Most of these Northeast channels of Prasar Bharati have digital views and watch time hours in millions of minutes, wherein Doordarshan and All India Radio channels of Manipur top the charts.
