Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep emotions as he recounted his profound connection with Varanasi, fondly known as Kashi, ahead of filing his nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections.
In an exclusive interview with India Today, PM Modi reflected on the transformative impact of his tenure representing the holy city and the enduring influence of its people and culture on his life.
PM Modi attributed his spiritual connection to Varanasi to the divine presence of Mother Ganga, describing her as having adopted him and shaping his outlook on service and responsibility. “Mother Ganga has called me. I do every work considering it as worship of God,” he said, visibly moved by the affection shown by the people of Kashi.
The interview also delved into a poignant moment shared with PM Modi’s late mother, Heeraben Modi, who offered sage advice on integrity and compassion. “When my mother turned 100 years old, she told me to keep two things in mind: do not take bribes and do not forget the poor. Work wisely, live a pure life,” PM Modi revealed, highlighting the enduring influence of familial wisdom on his leadership philosophy.
PM Modi, contesting from Varanasi for the third time, expressed confidence in securing a resounding victory, emphasizing the BJP-led NDA’s projected success in crossing 400 seats in the polls. Dismissing the Congress’s prospects in Uttar Pradesh, he predicted that the party would fail to secure any seats in the state.
Turning his attention to Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi criticized the Congress leader’s electoral strategy and highlighted his perceived disconnect with voters in Wayanad and Amethi. Regarding the Ram Mandir issue, PM Modi underscored its significance as a matter of faith rather than electoral politics.
Before proceeding to file his nomination papers, PM Modi participated in prayers and performed aarti at the Dashashwamedh Ghat, symbolizing his reverence for Varanasi’s spiritual heritage.
As PM Modi embarks on another electoral campaign in Varanasi, his reflections underscore the deep personal and spiritual significance of the city, shaping his vision and commitment to public service.
