Prime Video to premiere ‘G20’ on April 10

Prime Video is turning up the heat this April with the release of its explosive new action-thriller ‘G20’, led by none other than Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis, who steps into the commanding role of Danielle Sutton, the President of the United States. Scheduled to premiere globally on April 10, the film is already generating buzz for its gripping storyline, emotional stakes, and a power-packed ensemble cast.

But ‘G20’ is not your typical action flick. It’s a geopolitical rollercoaster set against the backdrop of the G20 summit, where a group of extremists storm the venue, plunging the world into chaos. As President Sutton fights to take control of the situation inside the summit, the crisis takes a personal turn. She is torn between leading a global response and ensuring the safety of her family, who are now prime targets outside the political battlefield, the platform said in a press statement.

The emotional core of the film lies in the bond between Danielle Sutton and her husband, Derek Sutton, played by Anthony Anderson. Known for his sharp wit and comic timing, Anderson surprises audiences in a far more grounded and intense role — that of a former military medic turned First Gentleman. As the attack unfolds, Derek is separated from his wife and must rely on his training to protect their children and keep hope alive.

Speaking about his role, Anderson said, “Derek is ex-military. He’s seen his share of battles, but this is personal. His only mission is to keep his kids safe and stand strong for the woman he loves, who also happens to be the leader of the free world.” Reflecting on working alongside Davis, he added, “I don’t take this lightly. Not everyone gets to act opposite an EGOT winner and call them a friend. With ‘G20’, I got the best of all worlds — a brilliant script, a phenomenal team, and a chance to play a role that challenged me in new ways.”

The film is directed by Patricia Riggen, known for her ability to weave human emotion into large-scale narratives. The script comes from a team of skilled writers — Caitlin Parrish, Erica Weiss, Logan Miller, and Noah Miller, who also developed the story. Viola Davis and her husband Julius Tennon have co-produced the film under their banner JuVee Productions, alongside Andrew Lazar of Mad Chance Productions. The film is backed by Amazon MGM Studios and MRC.

‘G20’ also stars Marsai Martin, Ramón Rodríguez, Douglas Hodge, Elizabeth Marvel, Sabrina Impacciatore, Christopher Farrar, and Antony Starr, making it a truly star-studded affair.

Viola Davis, as always, brings weight, dignity, and fire to the screen, portraying a leader torn between duty and motherhood. The film blends real-world tensions with cinematic scale — delivering not just a pulse-pounding action story, but also an emotional family saga that feels deeply grounded.

With its global premiere just days away, ‘G20’ promises to be one of the most talked-about political thrillers of the year, and it’s exclusively available to stream on Prime Video starting April 10.
