Prime Video has released the trailer for its upcoming Original drama series, ‘Waack Girls’, set to premiere on November 22. Directed by Padma Shri awardee Sooni Taraporevala, the series promises to be a high-energy blend of dance, drama, humor, and heartfelt moments.
Co-written by Sooni Taraporevala, Iyanah Bativala, and Ronny Sen, Waack Girls explores themes of friendship, resilience, and defiant self-expression through the eyes of six young women who bond over their shared love for the dance form known as waacking.
Set in the vibrant streets of Kolkata, the trailer introduces viewers to this dynamic and lesser-known dance style, which has gained global attention but remains relatively new in India. Waacking, a dance form that combines rapid arm movements and emotional expression, is central to the series.
The plot revolves around the lives of these passionate women, each with their own personal story and struggle, as they navigate challenges related to family, societal norms, and their individual dreams.
The series stars Mekhola Bose as an expert waacker and the choreographer of the group, alongside Rytasha Rathore, Anasua Chowdhury, Chrisann Pereira, Priyam Saha, Ruby Sah, and Achintya Bose.
The cast also includes veteran actors Barun Chanda, Lillete Dubey, and the late Nitesh Pandey in pivotal roles. The series is produced by Caleb Franklin, Vikesh Bhutani, and Sooni Taraporevala under Matter Entertainment, Chalkboard Entertainment, and Jigri Dost Productions.
In the trailer, the vibrant energy of the city of Kolkata blends seamlessly with the rhythm of waacking, as the young women tackle personal and societal challenges. Mekhola Bose, who plays the choreographer, expressed her excitement, stating, “Waacking is an amazing medium for self-expression through movement and emotion. It’s an honor to showcase why waacking deserves a prominent place on the global stage.”
Rytasha Rathore, who plays the manager of the dance group, shared her enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Waack Girls is a true collaboration made with the purest souls. I’m really looking forward to finally sharing this piece of our hearts with the audience.”
Waack Girls will be available exclusively on Prime Video in India and across 240 countries and territories worldwide, with dubs in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. The series promises to be an exciting and empowering journey for anyone who has ever found freedom and strength through movement.
