In a groundbreaking move blending sports and entertainment, celebrated filmmaker Atlee and his wife Priya have acquired the Bengaluru franchise in the World Pickleball League (WPBL). Dubbed the Bengaluru Jawans, the team marks the couple’s debut in the sports domain, reflecting their passion for pickleball and a commitment to redefining the sporting landscape in India.

The WPBL, co-founded by former Indian tennis champions Gaurav Natekar and Arati Ponnappa Natekar, is set to launch on January 24, 2025. With six franchises and 48 players from India and around the globe, the league promises to be a high-energy showcase of skill, competition, and entertainment.

The Bengaluru Jawans have already generated buzz with their star-studded roster. Leading the team is Indian pickleball sensation Vrushali Thakare, known as ‘Hammer Thakare’ for her dynamic gameplay. Joining her are international players like Jack Foster, Katerina Stewart, Trang Hyunh McClain, Marcelo Jardim, Alejandra Bobaria, Felix Grunert, and Mauro Garcia, forming a formidable lineup poised for success.
