Luytens Delhi and the Press Club of India were rife with rumours for over 48 hours about TV Today Network’s Rahul Kanwal leaving for greener pastures. Late evening yesterday the confirmation came in the form of an official announcement by the TVTN boss Kallie Purie.
“After more than 22 years with us, Rahul Kanwal – News Director, TVTN, and Executive Director of Business Today – will be moving on to explore new opportunities,” stated a communique to group employees from Purie, Vice Chairperson & Executive Editor-in-Chief of the India Today Group. ITG owns the TV channels run via TV Today Network (TVTN).
Where’s Kanwal going? Though Indianbroadcastingworld.com couldn’t get any firm confirmation on that, but media industry buzz says Kanwal is heading to NDTV group — controlled by billionaire Gautam Adani’s Adani Enterprises — on a hefty rise in annual pay package.
Pointing out that Kanwal’s career, from a passionate journalist to a News Director, has been nothing short of remarkable and inspiring, Purie’s note said, “His story is the quintessential India Today Group narrative- an extraordinary journey of organic growth, limitless opportunities, and a meteoric rise that benefited both sides.
“Over the last twelve years, we’ve worked closely together, built formidable teams, created powerful editorial IPs, and traversed the length and breadth of our incredible country, collecting memories that will last a lifetime. Our newsroom is the envy of the media ecosystem.”
In a fitting farewell, Purie concluded by saying: “He may go anywhere, but I know he will always carry a piece of India Today Group with him.”
