NDTV has announced the appointment of veteran journalist Rahul Kanwal as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Key Managerial Personnel. The decision was approved by the company’s Board of Directors during a meeting held on April 25, 2025. Kanwal will officially assume the role on June 16, 2025.
According to a regulatory filing submitted to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the appointment was made following the recommendation of the company’s Nomination and Remuneration Committee. It is also subject to approval from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, as per standard protocol outlined under the SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations.
Rahul Kanwal brings over two decades of experience in journalism, having served with distinction at the India Today Group for 22 years. At India Today, he held multiple senior positions including News Director of India Today and Aaj Tak, and later, Executive Director at Business Today. He joined the group in 2002 as a principal correspondent and quickly rose through the ranks due to his sharp editorial acumen and on-ground reporting skills.
Widely regarded for his investigative journalism and election analysis, Kanwal also served in senior editorial roles at Headlines Today and Zee News earlier in his career. His credentials extend beyond newsroom leadership — he is an alumnus of Harvard Business School’s General Management Program, a Chevening Scholar, and a journalism graduate from Delhi University. He also completed a program in International Broadcast Journalism from Cardiff University in the UK.
Kanwal has received numerous accolades over the years, including the prestigious Roy Peck Trust Grant for Hostile Environment Journalism, acknowledging his commitment to journalistic integrity and public interest reporting.
