In a fitting tribute to one of India’s most esteemed military figures, Zee Cinema is set to commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas by premiering the film ‘Sam Bahadur.’ The world television premiere is scheduled for Sunday, July 28, airing at 12:00 pm and 9:00 pm.
Directed by Meghna Gulzar and starring Vicky Kaushal, ‘Sam Bahadur’ portrays the life and legacy of General Sam Manekshaw, India’s first Field Marshal and a key strategist in the Indo-Pak War of 1971. The film also features talented actors Sanya Malhotra and Fatima Sana Shaikh, further enriching its narrative.
‘Sam Bahadur’ delves into the journey of General Manekshaw, showcasing his early days, military career, and his critical role in securing victory for India during the 1971 war. The film is from the makers of acclaimed movies like ‘Uri’ and ‘Raazi,’ promising a compelling and authentic portrayal of historical events.
Vicky Kaushal, who plays Sam Manekshaw, shared his reverence for the role, “Playing Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw was an honor. I remember my parents narrating to me stories about the 1971 war and the undeniable contribution of Sam sir. When we did the readings and went on floors, I could feel his presence and vividly remember telling Meghna, ‘Sam is here!'”
Director Meghna Gulzar expressed the significance of accurately portraying Manekshaw’s life, “Our research began in 2017, where we tried to connect with as many people associated with him – his daughters, grandchildren, extended family, colleagues, and military associates. The more I learned about Sam Manekshaw, the more strongly I believed, and still do – they don’t make men like him anymore.”
Sanya Malhotra, who portrays Siloo, emphasized the impact of her role, “Vicky Kaushal played his character to the T, and what added even more excitement to this was sharing screen space with my first ever co-actor, Fatima Sana Shaikh.”
Fatima Sana Shaikh also reflected on her experience, “It was a moment of immense pride and an honor to be part of Meghna’s creative direction. I can’t wait for audiences to watch the film on Zee Cinema.”
As India marks 25 years of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Zee Cinema’s premiere of ‘Sam Bahadur’ offers a heartfelt homage to General Sam Manekshaw’s strategic brilliance and unparalleled valor. Don’t miss this cinematic tribute, airing on July 28 at 12:00 pm and 9:00 pm, exclusively on Zee Cinema.
