Sarah Silverman, along with authors Richard Kadrey and Christopher Golden, has filed copyright infringement lawsuits against Meta Platforms (parent company of Facebook) and OpenAI.

The lawsuits claim that the companies used their copyrighted content without permission to train artificial intelligence language models, specifically chatbots. Meta and OpenAI have yet to comment on the allegations, Reuters reported.

These lawsuits highlight the legal risks faced by developers who utilize copyrighted material to create chatbots that generate realistic responses. The plaintiffs argue that leaked information regarding Meta’s AI business suggests unauthorized use of their work, while summaries generated by OpenAI’s ChatGPT indicate training on their copyrighted content.

The lawsuits seek unspecified damages on behalf of a nationwide class of copyright owners affected by the alleged infringement.
