Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament for Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, has questioned PM Modi’s decision to discuss India’s internal issues on a global scale.
Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, known for his sharp wit and articulate responses, is set to dazzle the audience with his captivating presence on ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ on Saturday, June 3, 2023.
Shashi Tharoor, who last appeared on the show in 2018, will be in conversation with India TV Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma. He will speak about the Congress party, his late wife, Sunanda Pushkar, and the 2026 Kerala assembly elections.
Shashi Tharoor defended Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in the exclusive episode of his speech in London, which was criticized for allegedly calling for foreign intervention in the country.
In response, he claimed that it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) who started the trend of discussing domestic issues on international platforms.
“Political divisions within the country should be kept to the border.” It is also true that the BJP and Modi Ji were the first to break this. It was PM Modi who remarked on an international platform that nothing good happened in India in the last 60 years,” he said.
When asked about reports of internal party strife over his decision to run for the Congress presidential nomination in 2022, Shashi Tharoor denied the allegations. He revealed that he discussed his nomination with Sonia, Rahul, and Priyanka Gandhi before filing it. “I met all three of them before filing my nomination, and I was ready to give up if they had advised against it to maintain party unity,” said veteran Congress leader Shashi Tharoor. However, they never stated this. They inspired me. Mallikarjun Kharge was elected, and I respect his decision.”
Talking about his personal life, Shashi Tharoor expressed his dismay over the way his name was implicated in the unfortunate demise of his late wife, Sunanda Pushkar. In response to Rajat Sharma’s question, Shashi Tharoor stated, “It was disheartening to see certain individuals attempting to gain political advantage from it. Those who are familiar with me know that I could never engage in such behavior.”
Shashi Tharoor even cleared the air of speculation about his plans to contest the Kerala polls, which has emerged due to his heightened focus on the state. Referring to Kerala as his ‘Karma Bhoomi,’ the three-time MP from Thiruvananthapuram said, “I need more time to decide on this.” He also acknowledged that there is resistance within his party and that some people would not like him to get entangled in state politics. However, if it can bring about a positive change in the lives of people, he would consider it.
Rajat Sharma’s hit show ‘Aap Ki Adalat,’ the former Minister of State for External Affairs also discussed India’s foreign policy strategies.
The episode will air on Saturday at 10 p.m. and again on Sunday at 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.
