Sony LIV has announced plans to adapt the popular crime drama series ‘Magpie,’ originally produced by yes TV and Donna & Shula Productions (Tehran), into an Indian version titled ‘Kan Khajura.’
‘Magpie’ recently concluded its second season on yes TV, receiving widespread acclaim and positive reviews.
The series ‘Magpie’ follows the story of Asa Katz, a man who has served 17 years in prison for murder. He is released early under the condition that he works as an informant for the police, a role he also held during his time in jail.
Returning to his old neighborhood, Asa faces a strained relationship with his older brother, David, who holds little regard for him. Asa’s attempts to reconcile with his brother are further complicated by conflicting interests, placing him in precarious situations. As he navigates both his life of crime and his work with the police, Asa skillfully treads the fine line between these two worlds to his advantage.
Sharon Levi, Managing Director of yes Studios, expressed their delight at the format deal for ‘Magpie,’ which will see Sony LIV become the home for a third of yes Studios’ drama series. Levi noted that ‘Magpie’s’ themes of sibling conflict and the desire for a fresh start while being constantly drawn back into an old life resonate strongly with viewers. The adaptation promises to offer viewers a captivating and relatable storyline.
Saugata Mukherjee, Head of Content at Sony LIV, highlighted their commitment to weaving global storytelling elements into the fabric of Indian culture. He described ‘Magpie’ as a complex and intriguing series with compelling characters and storylines. Sony LIV is pleased to collaborate once again with yes Studios to bring this highly acclaimed thriller to the Indian audience.
‘Magpie’ was originally created by Adam Bizanski, Omri Shenhar, and Dana Eden, with Adam Bizanski and Omri Shenhar also contributing to the script. The series received recognition at the Berlin TV Series Festival in 2019, winning the award for Best Screenplay and receiving nominations for Best International Series and Best Performance. Yes Studios serves as the distributor for both the finished program and the format.
The Indian adaptation, ‘Kan Khajura,’ is expected to captivate audiences with its intricate storytelling and intriguing characters, adding to the growing portfolio of quality content available on Sony LIV.
