Darr

One of Bollywood’s most iconic psychological thrillers, ‘Darr’, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Juhi Chawla, and Sunny Deol, is returning to the big screen today, nearly three decades after its original release.

The re-release is part of a special theatrical revival aimed at celebrating Hindi cinema’s timeless classics and giving audiences—both old and new—a chance to experience the magic once again in cinemas.

Released in 1993, ‘Darr’ was directed by the legendary Yash Chopra and produced by Yash Raj Films. The film became a cultural phenomenon, known not only for its gripping narrative but for transforming Shah Rukh Khan into Bollywood’s most unexpected anti-hero. His chilling portrayal of Rahul, an obsessive lover whose infatuation spirals into obsession, remains one of the most talked-about performances of his career. The unforgettable line “I love you K-K-K-Kiran” has since become a part of pop culture history.

The film’s storyline—revolving around unrequited love, fear, and psychological suspense—broke away from conventional Bollywood tropes of the time, introducing a darker, more intense kind of storytelling. It was also notable for its haunting soundtrack composed by Shiv-Hari, with evergreen songs like “Tu Mere Saamne”, “Jaadu Teri Nazar”, and “Ang Se Ang Lagana”
.
The re-release is happening in select theatres across India, restored for the big screen with improved sound and visuals. It gives Gen Z cinephiles a rare opportunity to see SRK in one of his earliest breakout roles—long before he became the global superstar known today.

Film enthusiasts and longtime fans have expressed excitement on social media, celebrating the return of a film that not only defined an era but also helped redefine the hero-villain archetype in Bollywood. Yash Raj Films, in association with PVR Inox, has curated this re-release to honour both SRK’s legacy and Yash Chopra’s visionary storytelling.

As theatres light up once again with the suspenseful shadow of Rahul, Darr promises to reignite the thrill of watching psychological drama unfold where it first belonged — the silver screen.
