Star Sports to broadcast Lanka Premier League 2024 in India

Star Sports is set to broadcast the upcoming Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2024, live from Sri Lanka. The tournament will run from July 1 to July 21, with exclusive coverage on Star Sports.

Anil Mohan Sankhdhar, Founder and CEO of IPG Group, the official rights holder of LPL, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership. “Since its inception, the LPL has not only showcased thrilling cricket but also served as a platform for nurturing talented Sri Lankan cricketers. This journey would not have been possible without Star Sports, whose unwavering commitment has elevated the league to new heights,” Sankhdhar said. He highlighted Star Sports’ exceptional standards in live and non-live cricket content, which have captivated audiences across India.

The fifth edition of the LPL will feature 24 matches over 21 days, including doubleheaders on most days. Day matches will start at 3 PM IST, and night matches will commence at 7:30 pm IST. The league will feature top international cricketers like Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mustafizur Rahman, Shadab Khan, and local stars such as Wanindu Hasaranga, Angelo Mathews, and Kusal Mendis.

Samantha Dodewala, Tournament Director of the Lanka Premier League, emphasized the importance of Star Sports’ involvement. “The quality and standard of play that the Lanka Premier League embodies will reach new heights in terms of team competitiveness and fan excitement. Having a renowned broadcaster like Star Sports expand the tournament’s reach is immensely beneficial for the growth of the league,” Dodewala stated.

Star Sports’ dedication to high-quality broadcasting promises stunning angles and immersive experiences. Their portfolio includes premier events like the ICC T20 World Cup, Indian Premier League, and Wimbledon. Broadcasting the Lanka Premier League will further strengthen their impressive lineup.

Harry Griffith, Head of Acquisition and Syndication, Sports, Disney Star, shared his excitement about the continuous live cricket action. “Cricket fans in India can look forward to exhilarating matches and unforgettable moments. Our commitment to bringing the best of cricket to our viewers is unwavering, and we are thrilled to be the broadcasters of LPL 2024 on linear TV.”

The league stage will run from July 1 to 16, featuring teams Colombo Strikers, Dambulla Sixers, Galle Marvels, Jaffna Kings, and Kandy competing against each other twice. The playoffs will take place in Colombo from July 18, with the finals set for July 21. Matches will be held across three venues: Colombo, Dambulla, and Kandy.

With the inclusion of top-tier international and local talent, the LPL 2024 promises to deliver high-octane cricket action, ensuring fans are on the edge of their seats throughout the tournament.
