The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on Monday said the country’s telcos have implemented an amendment in the tariff rules on 30 days vouchers for the consumers.
Pointing out the Telecommunication Tariff Order (TTO) was suitably amended after consultations with stakeholders, TRAI said, “Accordingly, 30 days vouchers and vouchers renewable on same date of every month are, inter-alia, available on their (telcos’) website and are open for subscription.”
According to the telecom regulator, it had received references from consumers expressing concerns regarding the tariff offers of 28 days’ validity (or in multiples thereof) by telecom service providers (TSPs), rather than tariff offerings having validity for 30 days or a month. Conscious of the need to address consumer concerns and perceptions in this regard, two amendments to TTO were made.
Before the amendments, consultations too were completed with stakeholders on the vouchers’ issue. Now, every TSP would have to offer the following:
# Offer at least one plan voucher, one special tariff voucher and one combo voucher having a validity of 30 days.
# Every TSP shall offer at least one plan voucher, one special tariff voucher and one combo voucher, which shall be renewable on the same date of every month and if the date of such renewal is not available in a month, the date of renewal shall be the last date of that month.
“All telecom service providers have implemented the amendments to TTO and launched the aforesaid vouchers in consonance with above amendments,” TRAI said, adding consumers may make use of these vouchers, which were launched on their demand.
