This year’s Durga Puja festival saw the release of three major Bengali films—‘Tekka’, ‘Bohurupi’, and ‘Shastri’—all of which are receiving a positive response from cinephiles flocking to theatres during the festive season. According to industry stakeholders, these movies, which premiered on October 8, just before the Puja festivities began, have captivated audiences and generated substantial box office numbers.
An official from the Eastern India Motion Pictures Association (EIMPA) confirmed that ‘Bohurupi’ has emerged as the frontrunner, followed by ‘Tekka’. Mithun Chakraborty’s film, ‘Shastri’, also garnered a significant response from viewers. Zinia Sen, one of the producers of ‘Bohurupi’, highlighted the film’s success on Mahasaptami (October 10), with 132 almost full shows and six houseful shows across theatres. ‘Tekka’ recorded 76 almost houseful shows, while ‘Shastri’ reported 19 almost houseful shows on the same day, PTI reported.
Dev, the lead actor and producer of ‘Tekka’, shared his excitement on social media, noting that the film crossed ₹1.5 crore in just three days. Director Srijit Mukherji also celebrated the film’s success, calling it a “blockbuster” on Saptami.
Box office figures reveal that ‘Bohurupi’ has so far earned over ₹2.1 crore, while ‘Tekka’ continues to perform well, and ‘Shastri’ has earned over ₹25 lakh. Dev, while rooting for the success of all three films, expressed hope that ‘Tekka’ would stand out while wishing the best for the entire Bengali film industry during this festive season.
