India’s broadcast and telecoms regulator TRAI said on Monday that Telecommunications Engineering Centre, a federal government organization, would be the designated testing and certification agency for conditional access and subscriber management systems of the TV distribution platforms.
Though such an exercise had been undertaken earlier too, this time stakeholders hope that the TEC, which is an organization under the Communications Ministry, would do a better job.
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in a statement said TEC would maintain test schedules and procedures as per specifications laid down.
TEC would also be responsible for shortlist the empanelled list of accredited testing labs that fulfill the requirements for carrying out the testing of CAS and SMS of the distribution platforms as per yardsticks.
Records of all the test results and deployment details of CAS and subscriber management system deployed in India would be kept so as to get better data of the cable TV sector.
