Prime Video presents ‘Trailblazers’, an event dedicated to celebrating the remarkable women of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios. Held in London on October 1 saw high profile women achievers in attendance.
Hosted by Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon MGM Studios, and Kelly Day, VP of Prime Video International, the showcase took place at the Queen Elizabeth Hall at London’s South Bank Centre.
The event welcomed an impressive lineup of guest speakers, including: Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Octavia Spencer, Bryce Dallas Howard, Amy Pascal, Charlotte Brändström and Louise Hooper (directors) and Lindsey Weber (producer).
In front of an audience of industry guests and female executives from Prime Video, discussions centered on building global franchises, appealing to younger generations, and the rise of action heroines, Amazon said in a statement yesterday.
Anchored by broadcaster Clara Amfo, the event explored themes showcased in Prime Video’s popular series and movies, including ‘Citadel’, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’, and ‘Deep Cover’.
The event also featured previews of forthcoming international series and films, including:
- Citadel: Diana (Italy)
- The Devil’s Hour Season 2 (UK)
- Culpa Tuya (Spain)
- My Fault: London (British adaptation)
- La Virgen Roja (all-female cast)
- The Office Australia
Salke stated, “We’ve had a mission to be a destination for women all around the world, and we’re starting to see progress with that.” Day added, “We’ve expanded storytelling so much for women, igniting passion for our female viewers.”
In an on-stage chat, Octavia Spencer highlighted the importance of female representation, saying, “To see how vastly different the industry is now, how many opportunities are available to us, is imperative.”
Priyanka Chopra Jonas commented on Amazon’s commitment to local stories, stating, “It takes huge courage to back local stories.”
Several significant announcements were made during the event:
- Greenlight: Prime Video announced the expansion of the Reacher universe with a series order for ‘The Untitled Neagley Project’, starring Maria Sten. This series follows private investigator Frances Neagley as she seeks justice for a friend’s suspicious death.
- First-look Clip: An exclusive clip of ‘Citadel: Diana’, executive produced by the Russo Brothers, was unveiled, showcasing high-octane action sequences featuring Matilda De Angelis.
- First-look Images: New visuals from the upcoming UK Original movie ‘My Fault: London’, set to launch in 2025.
- Trailer: The official trailer for ‘The Devil’s Hour’ Season 2 was introduced by Jessica Raine, with the series premiering globally on October 18.
Prime Video also highlighted its £10 million Prime Video Pathway programme, aimed at increasing access to careers in TV and film production. Notably, 64 percent of participants in the program have been women, underscoring Prime Video’s commitment to fostering diversity in the industry.
Prime Video is positioning itself as a leading entertainment destination, bringing a vast collection of premium programming to viewers worldwide. The event showcased the incredible talent of women across the industry and reiterated the commitment to enhancing their visibility and opportunities in front of and behind the camera.
