Even as Twitter Inc’s public policy chief left the company amid additional layoffs to the unit, the company announced on Friday the long-awaited feature that its CEO Elon Musk had promised would be added to the platform — subscribers can now upload videos up to 60 minutes long from the web at 1080p resolution and 2GB in file size.
Twitter updated its Blue Page with the information, as well as a reminder that all videos must follow the company’s rules.
Previously, Twitter Blue subscribers could upload 10-minute-long videos at 1080p resolution with a file size limit of 512MB
However, the company stated that iOS and Android users can still upload videos up to 10 minutes long, as before, IANS reported from San Francisco.
Those who do not have Twitter Blue can still upload videos up to 4 minutes long on any platform.
The microblogging platform stated that it will consider changing the video’s quality for distribution.
“We strive to maintain the highest possible video quality for all videos uploaded to our platform,” said the company’s support page.
“However, we may modify or adapt your original video for distribution, syndication, publication, or broadcast by us and our partners, and/or make changes to adapt it to different media, such as modifying the resolution and bitrate of the original video while streaming based on the speed and stability of the viewer’s internet connection,” it added.
Furthermore, the company stated that there will be no limit to the number of videos that users can upload, even if they are all the maximum length.
Policy Chief Sinead McSweeney Quits: Meanwhile, Twitter Inc’s public policy chief has left the company amid additional layoffs to the unit on Thursday, sources familiar with the matter told Reuters, as billionaire owner Elon Musk continues to slash costs.
Sinead McSweeney, global vice president for public policy, has left Twitter, according to two sources. McSweeney’s departure has not been previously reported.
The layoffs and departures of a high-ranking leader comes as regulators around the globe question Twitter’s content moderation work and protection of user data after Musk cut the staff from more than 7,000 to under 2,000, the Reuters news report observed.
The public policy team is responsible for interacting with lawmakers and civil society on issues including free speech, privacy and online safety.
It handles requests from governments and civil rights groups to remove problematic content and sets rules to protect vulnerable users. With fewer staff, backlogs could increase and some policies in development could be ignored, one of the sources said.
Nick Pickles, senior director for global public policy strategy, has taken over McSweeney’s role, the two sources said.
